From: China Tibet Online

The Tibet Yak Museum held a ceremony for receiving donations in Lhasa, capital of southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, on May 18, 2013, according to people.com.cn.

During the ceremony, about 50 articles related to yak were donated by people of all walks of life to Tibet Yak Museum.

Tibet Mountain Culture Development Foundation donated a large traditional Chinese painting work entitled Peace on the plateau created by Zheng Shanlu, a famous contemporary traditional Chinese painter, said Wen Li, general director of the foundation.

It was an obligation for the company to enrich the collections of the Tibet Yak Museum, she added.

Learning that the Tibet Yak Museum was founded, Tenzin Dargye, from Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai Province, donated some of his collected articles worth tens of thousands of yuan to the museum without hesitation, which were all related to yak, such as yak skin bags 200 years ago, yak skin trunks 300 years ago and wild yak horns 350 years ago.

All these collections can not only be viewed by tourists for Tibet, but also be preserved by the museum for good, which is a great pleasure for him, Tenzin Dargye said.

Tibet Yak Museum, one of Aid- Lhasa projects of Beijing, was located in Newu New District, Lhasa, covering an area of 8,088 square meters.

As a landmark project in Tibetan culture sites, Tibet Yak Museum, the first state-level yak museum in the world, will debut on May 18, 2014, the International Museum Day.

Mostly found on high-altitude Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, yaks gradually adapt themselves to the environment by long-term evolution.

Closely linked to Tibetan people’s life, yaks have accompanied local inhabitants for thousands of years.
